D300 filename sequencing

Had my D300 since July 2012 - it came with 4825 shutter actuations so all my files start at DSD_4826. I went out today knowing that I would take it beyond DSD_9999 but having no idea what it would do when it reached that level.
It went from folder 102ND300 up to 103ND300 automatically but when the file number reverted to 0001 it retained the alpha prefix of DSD. Rightly or wrongly (?) I want it to be DSE from file 0001 onwards.

I've used the manual facility to make the change myself and I've renamed the few files that were named DSD when it went back to 0001

Question: If the contained filename sequencing had started at DSD_0001 instead of DSD_4826 would the camera have changed the filename prefix to DSE when it went beyond 9999 ?
IE DSD_9999 to DSE_0001
