Need to downsize. Lens(es) to keep?
May 9, 2014
Between not using my camera as much as I used to (little time to use it) and a recent lack of funds, I'm looking to downsize my camera equipment.
Right now for my NX300, I have the 20-50mm it came with, 30mm, 45mm 3D, and 50-200mm. I generally shoot nature (ex. flowers with a wide aperture setting), but occasionally shoot landscapes, people/animals, and videos.
I barely use the 20-50mm. I literally have only used it when I need an overall picture for selling a group of items - but I've run out of things to sell, and my smartphone gets the job done fairly well. But it also doesn't sell for much, and I'm worried it'll really affect resale value when I sell the NX300 and extra way down the line.
The 30mm was the first lens I got to supplement my NX system, and it's been pretty good - no complaints. I always hear how the image quality with it is pretty good, and can attest to that.
I haven't used the 45mm 3D much since I only recently got it, but I do like it. While not great, the option of 3D is nice, at least for video. The wide aperture is great for low lighting situations (I never use flash) and the focal length makes it pretty good for pictures of close animals and people. The silent motor makes using the EM-10 microphone tolerable (otherwise, the focus motor nearly drowns everything out, or I have to set it to manual focus and set it on a tripod).
And as much as I'd like to use the 50-200mm, I generally find the 200mm to not be long enough for what I'm taking pictures/video of, and my hands aren't steady enough to comfortably use it without a tripod.
So basically, it seems like sticking with the 45mm 3D is my best option here, but I'm looking for some input, possibly from someone who uses an NX with just one or two lenses.
