the FV-5 will not do the touch screen focus

It does for me. Select the "AF" icon at the bottom of the screen (second from the left) to activate Focus Mode selection, then touch the icon that has a hand with extended finger (third from the right).

You can also select touch metering, and you can have focus and metering at two different places — touch-and-hold for metering, quicker touch for focus.

As for other apps, I use Snap Camera for ordinary photography and Camera360 Ultimate for fun photography. If you like easy access to tons of settings, or if combining shots into wide-angle and/or panorama is your thing, you might like Pro Camera.

I'd probably use VSCO Cam, because these days I do most of my editing in VSCO Cam, except that the camera part of their app isn't ready for prime-time. Among other things, it gets the EXIF wrong.
