Stepping up to a dslr/dslt, any dslr/dslt will make a big difference in picture quality!

The 16-50 is an excellent lens! It does a great job in so many different situations that it is by far my most used lens. In my opinion the 16-50 is such a good lens it almost sells the Sony SLT line by itself!

I always liked Canons compact cameras. They are the most robust in my experience (I have never used a Sony compact because of the proprietary memory sticks). But any APS-c sensor interchangeable lens camera should be able to blow them away in image quality.

The A77/16-50 is an excellent combination! What made you decide on Sony over a Canon DSLR? Personally I really like the In Body Image Stabilization in the Sony bodies. That is probably the biggest single selling point for me!
