Is it okay to ask a photographers what the did in Post?

I asked this of a person (who has a website that sells his work) who posted a pic in a non-photo forum. It was a B&W taken in full sun with no clouds but the sky very was dark, like what happens when you screw on a red or orange filter. The sky was MUCH darker than what a polarizer can achieve.

She wouldn't respond; just ignored my question, but continued to discuss the pic with others in the thread. I've gotten along well with her for years.

I can only imagine she was insulted by my question suggesting that she hadn't skillfully captured some once-in-a-hundred-year unique weather phenomenon.:-O

So, is asking about post processing taboo these days? Do photographers think of what they do as secret, proprietary or sensitive?
