Voigtländer 17.5mm for theatre portraits : Female Transport

Last Friday, my daughter graduated (summa cum laude, so I am very proud) from the Acting&Drama classes at the Academy of Schoten.

At the end of their 6 years of training, her class performed, as graduation project, a stage production of "Female Transport" by playwright Steve Gooch.

The play deals with the circumstances and drama of convicts transports from Great-Britain to the meagerly populated new colonies down under. These are the hands that built Australia.

I was present before the dress rehearsal to capture portraits. Rather than use strobes and make really individual shots or simulate the action, I decided to isolate each character against a backdrop of other actors.

The Voigtländer 17.5mm F0.95 was the perfect lens, both in speed and in focal length, to create such a set of images.

Later, I will probably add more conventional 45mm headshots, photographed on the closing night.

The set of ten Voigtländer shots is here: http://roelh.zenfolio.com/p497367776

Thank you for looking. Comments are welcome.
