DON'T rely on DPR posted photos.

DPR softens photos mercilessly. And the kit lens is, at best, adequately sharp enough. But DPR can make it look worse than it does. Try to view your samples on Flickr or one of the other photo sharing sites.

As regards the kit lens, I'm lucky enough to have come from a 4/3s DSLR and a sizable investment in DSLR lenses, so with the right adapter, I can use them without compromise.  I still use the kit lens, but only when speed and unobtrusiveness is as important as IQ.
