Hi,

I just bought NX300 in the USA. It is an excellent camera and the SNS sharing feature is especially interesting. However, I have a problem here. I used to live in China mainland so the websites such as facebook and youtube are not available. If I uploaded the photos to facebook, my friends will not see them. I heard that the Chinese version of NX300 is using weibo/renren to replace those forbidden websites. Can I change the region of NX300 from the USA to China? Thank you!

Hmm, well, if that is actually true (I haven't heard about it and don't recall noticing anything about it in the source code) then you might have some luck downloading and installing the firmware from the Chinese support site. https://www.samsung.com/cn/support/model/EV-NX300ZCQUCN

In fact, I have tried this. Unfortunately the firmware I downloaded from Samsung China is exactly the same file as that in Samsung USA. I guess it contains multiple languages and is automatically adjusted by "regional code" in the hardware. By the way, the USA version also does not allow me to select Simplified Chinese but just Traditional Chinese. It is so strange.

As far as the languages go.. more can be enabled/added if you compile the firmware yourself, but it's a giant pain in the butt with poor instructions and I still haven't gotten around to getting the proper cross compiler myself... that's something I need to get back to, but I haven't had much time lately, I don't get enough sleep as it is.
