Re: focusing screens and camera metering: can there be issues there?

It depends.

Matrix takes place in the mirror box base without any light going through the screen.

Spot and centre weighted take place at the front of the prism head.

If a substitute screen has different light transmission to Nikon there can be exposure issues.

In addition not all independent screens equally illuminate the viewfinder corners with all lenses.

Producing good quality photographs, or being good at sport or art, involves a little more than buying appropriate equipment. Practice, some learning and perhaps natural talent often play a bigger role than the equipment in your hands.
