Of course... especially if we feel obligated to use all the available DR just because it's there.

But it is there. As standard - unless we choose to turn it down. But how many ever do?

Turning up the camera's in-camera contrast setting probably isn't so uncommon. That can effectively move some of the available DR to the ends.
