I do wonder if there is such a price resistance in the States and possibly other areas to new cameras, as they have been so cheap in the past, that manufacturers just do not bother in some cases to distribute at opening prices. Possibly Far Eastern markets are active enough to mean that they only need to distribute to the West when initial costs have been recouped.
Western markets are very conservative and churning out the same old DSLR's probably covers most market needs.
