The quest for a new walkaround lens

Hello everyone !

I'm looking for some input regarding a very particular problem. I'm looking to replace my Tamron 17-50 2.8 (non VC) with another lens.

I am very satisfied over the optical qualities of this lens, but my main dislike is the autofocus system. I would like an USM motor with FTM. IS is a very big plus, but if the perfect lens exists w/o IS, then so be it. Weather sealing is an added value, but not a requirement.

So far I have considered:

- Canon 17-85 IS USM: no deal, distortion, quality and tendency to suck dust

- Canon 15-85 IS USM: doesn't seem as good optically as the Tamron, but still a fair contender given the focusing and range.

- Canon 17-55 2.8 IS USM: this would be the ideal lens, but it is too expensive for what I get

- Canon 18-135 IS STM: I do not really like the feel of the stm motor focus ring (and no FTM), but I admit this might be an excellent combo with the 70D

- Canon 24-105 or 24-70 /4: looks about perfect in every way, save for the 24, I will be running tests to see if I could live with it

- Sigma's offerings are pretty close, but do not offer FTM, so it's a no go.

Are there any others I forgot ?
