Do this simple test to eliminate the source of problem

1. Set your flash off camera on the SU-4 mode as an optical triggered flash.

2. Pop up your camera flash and point it towards the external flash.

3. Take a shot at 1/160, 1/200 and one at 1/250s.

If the shots at  1/160 and 1/200 are fine without any dark shadow, your camera and flash is fine and you have an issue with the trigger you are using.
