  • 17-35mm f/2.8

I discounted the 17-35 because of it's price and the fact that it is very soft in the corners. ...

Sharpness, price and distortion are excellent in the 17-35.

Chris, how does the 17-35 perform at night at f/2.8? Have you ever done any astrophotography with it? Main issue with this lens seems to be it's availability - can't find it new and prices suggest it would be £1500 minimum. Have seen a few second hand ones for £750-850, but I do worry about autofocus motor problems that seem to have been quite common with this lens.

I saw a rumour that Nikon have patented for a 16-35 f/2.8 to come out early next year. Anyone heard about this?! It will no doubt cost a fortune
