Re: Nikon wide angle dilemmas… 14-24, 18-35 and filters

I bought the 14-24mm when it was first released and have been using it for the past 5 years. It is amazingly sharp and when I tested it against a 16-35mm f4 to see if I could replace it with a zoom that was a lot lighter and more compact I found the difference to great and stayed with the 14-24mm lens.

The filter aspect is not important to me. I am not going to use a polarizing filter with an ultra wide angle lens as it is not going to be effective. I can use a large graduated ND filter with the 14-24mm or bracket the shot to compensate for high DR in a scene.

I did buy the 18-35mm f3.5G lens for use when traveling overseas. I save 1.5 lbs by using this lighter lens in my bag instead of the 14-24mm lens and I can use a smaller bag or backpack.
