One of the first pictures I ever made with a DSLR, how to get all sharp?

Re: How to get all sharp?

I think you misunderstood.

If you take a picture of a chart, flat to the camera, then it is at a set distance (say 10 feet). If your AF is off a little (say it focuses at 9.8 feet) your entire chart is out of focus.

Now take a picture in the real world of an object at 10 feet. You have lots of objects around, and some happen to be at 9.8 feet. Some of your picture is in focus, and some is not, even though the camera still focused incorrectly.

If you had taken a picture of a diagonal yardstick before AF adjustment, you would have seen there was still an in-focus area, just not at the target distance.

If an entire normal picture is soft (as the OP suggests) (no part of the yardstick is in focus) than changing AF adjustment won't help - something else is going on.
