Canon 650D and 550EX wireless flash
Canon 650D and 550EX wireless flash
Apr 22, 2014
I am planning to do a location shoot around an indoor pool in a sort of glass summer house so lots of natural light. I have a 650D and 550EX and a 430EX flash. I plan to use the 550EX as a single off camera flash wireless flash mounted on a stand and have never done this before.
I am delighted to find that it fires remotely with my 650D so no accessories needed (I think). I followed the 650D instructions in setting it for Easywire and set the camera and flash to channel 1 and built in flash set to Normal firing. From the 650D manual I believe this means that the built in flash fires a pre-flash to control the 550D but is disabled when taking the picture. The manual says that the built in flash may be evident in some photos - would this just be with a very long shutter speed or depending on curtain synch? Also when I first turn on the camera and set the flash settings I can go into external flash func settings but once I have done a couple of test pics I get a message saying tht this menu can not be displayed - incompatible flash or flash's power turned off - is this normal? I have the 550 set as a slave - is this correct? And I notice that the red AF assist light flashes repeatedly on this setting - is this normal? I am just looking to use the easiest setup.
I hope this is the right forum for such questions, thanks for your advice?
