Your post is on the spot as far as the A7 is concerned. But the zoom is still large for the A7 or NEX body formats. There is the option of the A99 with a a more solid body which is better suited to large lenses such as the 70-200.

Many of us have been waiting patiently for E-mount telephoto primes. If we had the option of compact 85mm, 135mm and 200mm primes with good IQ then we would just forget about the zoom and leave it to those who really need it.

Understood, but there is no point debating it if we don't have or want an A99.

This is an -FE Mount- lens.  I doubt Sony would offer it if it would be too large/bulky for the A7/r frame.  The A6000 isn't all that much smaller.  I suspect most of the concerns here are based primarily on aesthetics.  From a logistics and practical standpoint, that lens works fine on any of the Sony mirror less offerings.

re: telephoto primes - if any of those are reasonably fast, as we expect they will be, you may find their size/girth aren't significantly larger than the Fe70-200.

There is a many more advantages to mirror less systems than size.
