Here is my Tamron (adaptall) 80-210/3.8-4 and NEX6 (with E55-210):

As you can notice, the Tamron 80-210/3.8-4 isn't much bigger than E55-210 zoom! But much more light strength...

I wonder whether it would not 70-200/f4 could have been a bit smaller...


I have the 55-210 and it has OK image quality, but it won't cover a FF sensor and that is what the 70-200mm was designed for.  I would hope that the 50-200mm has better optics.

I would question if the Tamron and the Sony have the same quality optics.  Also, I doubt that the Tamron has OSS.  I assume that the Tamron does cover FF.  Also, it is a push pull telephoto.

I suspect that Sony designed to a certain quality level and limited the size by limiting the aperture.  I doubt that they would be able to make a FF zoom with the same quality and the same zoom range without inflating the price.  It was to their advantage to keep the size down.  Right....
