Sandhill Crane migration, 2014

Went to Nebraska for the annual Great Sandhill Crane migration North. Mostly cloudy each day and shooting around sunrise or sunset, scene is low contrast and low color. This spring's vacation was to the Audubon Rowe Sanctuary. The birds roost in the river from sunset to sunrise each day. They fly away in the morning to go eat in the fields. Coming in and going out are spectacular. Several hundred thousand come in over a half hours time at dusk. Then they all get up and go within a few minutes in the morning. The sky fills with them. The photos don't even come close to showing what we saw. My Wife's video with her E-M1 (stolen from me) were better than stills for this. Would be a terrific trip even if we got no photos.

Family singing together.

Chatting her up.

Still working on better BIF with this camera.

Not all are the same color. There are white, gray, and brown Sandhill Cranes.

These birds mate for life.

Strutting and dancing.
