It is meaningless to talk about sharpness of the 58 without the context of the shooting distance.

The problem with this is that nobody* shoots at f1.4 and infinity focus. Virtually every example I've seen from this lens is a picture of a person at relatively short distance.

For landscape use I think we can agree there are better choices.

Field curvature in portrait lenses doesn't bother me, since the subject isn't flat and the lens doesn't have to be focused at the image center.
