OK, one more. I was driving through Yellowstone last spring. My DSLR was on the seat beside me, ready for action, lens cap off, etc. Suddenly a huge black wolf crossed the road directly in front of the car, and started up the hill on the right side. I grabbed my camera, rolled down the window, and pushed the button to focus, and nothing happened. The camera was switched off. By the time I switched it on he was long gone.

But that wasn't the stupid thing. The stupid thing was I got out of the car and headed up the hill after him, thinking I might get another shot. I got about 50 feet until it occurred to me that this might not be a good idea.
