Fuji X-E2 as a First Camera. Thoughts?

I'm helping a friend select his first non point and shoot camera and find myself in a confused place for once.

Normally I would recommend starting with the standard DSLR base model from Canon or Nikon.

However, my friend wants the camera for travel, landscape and around town. No sports or kids.

We all probably know that lugging around a DSLR with several lenses is a burden and mirrorless cameras are very capable.

My question is this: Do you think that a fuji X-E2 is a good recommendation for a starter kit body.

I would recommend something lower down the line but think a viewfinder is a must for learning and the X-E2 falls within his budget.

Looking back to when I learned with a fully manual film camera, no autofocus and in the darkroom I would have loved to have a modern Fuji kit.

Thoughts or advice appreciated.
