Sell both lenses. Buy the Sigma 18-35. You kill two birds with one stone for you get the IQ of prime lenses and the versatility of zoom lenses. Forget about the two lenses you proposed.

Thanks Abu, it could be a good idea, I am just wondering the image quality at same focal length and same aperture like 35 mm / f5.6

And one further question to you guys:

If the maximum aperture is x, would you use x or x+1 or x+2 in common light condition or you will use the best aperture you experiment with the lens if the light permits

I have only the 14-40mm. And i like the lens, but i only use it for landscaping. The Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM would maybe something to concider if you also want a fast 35mm. And... some report that the Sigma 18-35mm overall is better then the Canon EF 17-40 mm

could you let me know which report it is? Or could you share me some comparable pictures if you have?

Thanks!
