If you see the OP, you will note that I was setting up Windows 8.1 for a non-expert, and he has enough trouble navigating a simple interface. He was totally thrown by the switch between touch-screen and Desktop mode. Since this thread has aroused a fair bit of interest, it seems that there really is a genuine issue.
