Interesting comment. I like your photo which was presumably taken with the Nikon 24mm f1.4G, which I also have and love.

BUT, what has a 24mm have to do with a 50mm?

Nothing other than to demonstrate why I won't be rushing out to pre-order one because I have a lens that can do pretty much what that one can do if I zoom with my feet and I am most surely not the only one who does.

I suspect that we are about to see a hype-fuelled 'pre-order' of the latest lens equivalent of Prince George's dungarees.

50mm is a dull focal length, once almost free with 35mm SLR bodies just to get you started. I wanted to provoke thought as to the WHY of buying that focal length other than 'because it's really good according to lots of people'!

There are other choices with more creative potential I believe. It seems clear that Sigma's main intent with this one is just as a demonstration piece to show they can take on Zeiss.

If you have a use for one of these, great. However it is no pocket 'nifty fifty' and buying such an expensive and specialised tool just for bragging rights or to take images you could take with a more modest incarnation of the focal length (still use my 50mm f1.4D Nikkor if I ever need a 50mm fixed, for example, with no issues) seems a bit wasteful.
