Well this is really the point I am trying to make. There is no one default setting that works for all circumstances. You really need to get familiar with your equipment and learn its nuances and learn what works best in a given situation. In my view it will take at least 10-15,000 shots.

I totally agree!

With my D700 I had run through several hundred thousand shots.  I could get about the same good shots (crisp focus) as you mentioned earlier - 60-70%.

I expected that the D800 would not be that big of a change.

So I'm trying to figure out am I not using the right settings for each situation or is it a bad camera, or is it me.
