There are three ways to apply lens correction profiles with LR

1. The raw file contains non-proprietary parameter corrections supplied by the camera company (usually transferred fromfirmware on-board the lens). LR reads the correction parameters and automatically applies them on import. The original raw data is not modified. This is how Fujifilm XF lenses corrections are made. The original raw data is not modified.

2. The raw files have no correction parameters or the parameters are proprietary (Nikon NEF for instance). In this case Adobe makes empirical measurements in-house and creates their own lens correction parameters. These correction may be better or worse than the manufacturers proprietary corrections. These corrections are selected in the Len Profile list. This is how X100 lens corrections are applied (I don't know anything bout the X100S).

3. Using instructions and free software from Adobe. Individuals create their own custom lens correction profiles. The idea is, it is possible to do a better job than Adobe does or make profile for lenses Adobe ignores. The individual then uses Adobe's software to install these profiles so they can be used in LR.

Thank you!
