Glad you got that sorted out in the simplest way. Because the apertures are so tiny at wide angle, a piece of dust on the surface of the lens can be pretty much in focus. On a full-frame or APS-C camera, you have to have quite a bit of junk on the outer lens element for it to show up in a photo. there's a "famous" shot at lensrentals.com of a lens with a huge set of cracks in it that still works fairly well.
