Re: On a tablet, better than Windows 8.0

I didn't like Windows 8 well enough to upgrade any desktops, or even install it as a virtual machine to try out.

On a tablet, Windows 8.1 is able to scroll down to pages of icons showing installed apps, similar to the iPad interface. I like this a lot better than the silly tiles.

The Windows 8.0 tablets I tried could not do this. It might be an OEM customization, or it could be part of the upgrade, I don't know. Most of the Windows 8.1 information on the Web seems off-target; I could not find scroll-down to icons listed as an enhancement. I did see "boot to desktop" as an 8.1 feature, but have never read a post here about it. Everybody just recommends 3rd party start-up switchers.

That's a feature of 8.1 and is available with mouse via an arrow that appears in the lower left corner of the Start Screen.
