OP - should be noted that even though FDs are OLD, very few fast 50s exist with aspherical elements to correct aberrations. Canon FD line had a 50 aspherical, and 50L (which was also aspherical).

Interesting. How do you tell which ones did have aspherical elements? Mine was definitely not the L, but it was, I believe, the next step down - the f1.4, and not the f1.8. Did they make multiple versions of these lenses? Did they change the design over the years?

Regarding my dilemma - I think many of you are right, that the E-PM2 kit is such a great deal, it's hard to pass up, even at $400. Also, I've done some additional tests with my XSi and have come to the conclusion that at least some of my focusing issues have something to do with the camera's autofocus system. I was using it the other day on a tripod, and was having the same issues with getting shots in focus. It finally occurred to me, that when I was getting sharp pictures, I was not only using a tripod, but was also manually focusing the lens.

It would state it on the front of the lens.

Not my lens, this is a random link for ebay.
