I originally bought the 7-14 for tree photos. One can literally be on top of the tree and include everything in the photo. I also use it to emphasize the foreground, such as flowers, while diminishing the background or as Richard says, to envelop the sky around the subject in question. For me, all three of these lenses can be used for subject control through different perspectives.

For urbanscapes, I myself wouldn't use it as I don't like otherwise perpendicular lines to be distorted. Some photographers (Roel comes to mind) like it in these situations for artistic purposes. Others have learned to control distortion for architectural photos. Each to his/her own and celebrate diversity of perspectives!
