These two have the same equivalent focal lengths, and very similar equivalent maximum apertures. But the one on the left weighs around 1,700 grams and the one on the right weighs around 700 grams. There is also a considerable cost savings.

If there wasn't a size and weight advantage for mirrorless, then it might not even exist. This is a key feature and cannot be overlooked.
