No large sensors or fancy processing = ?

Do you think it is possible to consistently create great images with small sensor compact cameras? Do we really need Lightroom, Photoshop, etc?

I have several Canon Powershot cameras but little talent. I am trying to improve my skills using the equipment I have but get distracted by the thoughts of how better gear and software could help. Large sensors with wide f stop lenses allow for nice soft dreamy backgrounds where a compact can not. A DSLR would be quicker resulting in less missed action shots. In my tests with the trial of Lightroom it seems easier to get better looking photos than with Canon DPP. I could go on but I think you get the idea

I'd love to hear the thoughts and ideas of others who use compact cameras and to see examples of your work. Do you want to "upgrade" to a camera with a bigger sensor? Are you happy shooting with what you have? What software do you use and why?
