Yes do that John. I put the model train in a glass in a museum up once; huge variety of post processing.

Also in shots like that one, I would pop the flash up to fill in some of those dark areas. Though sometimes, when I compare that flash shot with one without, I prefer the latter simply for the retained contrast.
