Well, RAW allows you to salvage troublesome photos, or troublesome parts of photos, but with JPEG there is literally nothing left to do but delete it, because most of the original information is gone. It also gives you the capability to make nice looking bigger prints, if that's something that might interest you. It's about more than general image quality, which is more subject to the "I don't care enough to shoot RAW, they look good enough" argument.
