I just purchased a used D700 from a Reuters photographer. I got the D700, 5 batteries, and a MB-10 Grip for $700. The camera had tape all over it and the grips were kind of nasty, but the sensor looked great and it took great photos. The shutter sounded snappy.

Before I even met up with the chap who was selling the camera, he told me NPS had replaced the shutter a short time ago during an event he attended.

However, two days later I check the shutter count and it showed 242,000 shots on the shutter. I thought NPS always resets the shutter count to ZERO when they replace a shutter. Is this true?

Was I snookered? I admit, I got the camera for a great price.

I wouldn't sweat it. My D700 had over 500,000 clicks on the original shutter. Sent it in to Nikon for an unrelated issue, and they replaced the shutter on their own. $700 is a great price for a very capable camera.
