Very inaccurate frame lines for 14mm and 23mm lens on X-Pro1

Is that just the way it goes? The area of coverage is broadly ok on 23mm.. but even at infinity the accuracy of what the camera is actually pointing at is very poor in the OVF.

With the 14mm the frame lines are about 20% too small and in the wrong place. I am disappointed as I thought these wider lenses would be much easier to work with than 35mm.

Please tell me I am missing something simple that I can fix.   I like the evf and would use it all the time.. but would like to experience the OVF and get some benefit from it. It's very disappointing.

Also: with the 14mm and 23mm shouldn't manual focus movement be able to trigger accurate frame line adjustment: presumably the lens is telling the camera what distance it is actually at??

Thanks for any suggestions.
