Why not a 12-35 F1.8 - F2.8?

The 12-35 is actually a F1.8-2.8. When you zoom down to 12mm, the aperture closes down to F2.8.

As the 12-35 already exhibits a bit of IQ degradation when shot wide open at 12mm, that will only get worse as the aperture opens up further. They could shoot it at F1.8/12mm, but you probably wouldn't like the results.

Don't know if the constant aperture µ43 lenses can do this, but with my ZD 7-14 constant F4, I can get it to open up to F2.8 at 7mm, by pressing the lens release button and disconnecting the electronics, which opens up the aperture. What you find is that the ZD 7-14, at 7mm/F2.8, looks... very weird. Definitely overly soft. Nothing you'd want to use, unless you like strange looking photos.
