Hi Joe,

Thank you.  The information you provided is exactly what I was looking for.  I, too, didn't like the sound of the ink loss--up to 3ml--each time one switched between photo black and matte black (apparently the loss is greater going one way than the other).  At a size of 25.9ml per cartridge, that's an 11.6% loss just for switching paper types, although I guess it has a hidden economy mode that changes the 3ml loss for one of the cartridges to 1ml.  And your comment about no significant difference with color printing leads me to the decision of keeping my R1900.  I'm a hobbyist who just prints for framing for wall hanging in my own house, so although I want high quality printed images, I'm not competing with anyone in the marketplace for customers.
