Sorry if I am repeating anything already said - have not had time to read the entire discussion.

I have the Tamron 18-270mm, as well as the Sony 35mm F1.8 and Tamron 60mm F2 Macro.

Very happy with the Tamron most of the time.  Only disadvantage is that it is sharper if you stop down, which means you end up with greater depth of field - not able to isolate the subject as well.  If the sharpness wide open is acceptable, then it works well.

There are more factors that effect sharpness than just the lens.  Shooting 270mm hand held at anything under 1/500sec will impact sharpness.  Shooting at higher ISO will impact sharpness.

Having said that - Tamron has announced the 16-300mm replacement for this lens.  That is worth looking at - a newer lens should - in theory! - outperform an older lens, given a newer design.
