If you bothered to read the bulk of this thread, you would have seen that most of us realize that it would have been a logistical nightmare and impossibilty for Nikon to "stop the presses". The proverbial cow was out of the barn and they were forced to play catchup. Not the best position to be in, but it was what it was.

Life's like that. Things go wrong and one has to accept that they do.

If you want 'cows out of the barn' then the Ford Pinto - produced for 5 years with a defective petrol tank - cost of replacement $11.

GM faulty ignition switches - numerous models cost of a better quality one - $2

Anyway, heartening that you realise that it was impossible to 'stop the presses'. In production one often gets 'spurious problems' that can't be identified at first glance in a complex system
