Unexpected expensive week with these repairs. I need to stop eyeing up this very interesting Sigma 35mm f1.4 and stop the bleeding for a while, haha.

Considering that that model is *supposed* to be as sharp as the 70-200 2.8 VRII which as you know is USD 2,000 + and even new 50mm 1.4 G's are almost USD 500, which is a far less complicated (and for some of us, less useful) lens, the price, considering after 10 years use, does not seem too bad. Also, considering it appears that Nikon does not now fix, but APS does, that is another good thing for you.

Yes, still a $ hit but, at least you will have a top notch lens again for USD 650.
