UWA for PEOPLE PICS: Nikon 16-35 vs 14-24 vs Tokina 16-28

Nikon 16-35 vs 14-24 vs Tokina 16-28 (If the 17-35 had the best distortion characteristics, would consider that lens as well)

Shooting with either one of my D700's or my D3s (have the sigma 10-20mm for the D7000 when going light weight). I have owned the nikon 16-35 vr since it was released.

After hours and hours of research on these lenses over several weeks, wanted to get some input from owners on which lens may offer the least amount of distortion for OOC jpgs when photographing people (say 2-6 people posing for photos).  I hate buying and returning gear unless absolutely needed, so I wanted to get some opinions/input.

We shoot at events and images either get printed immediately for guests or go straight to online gallery, so no post production is possible.

Sometimes we're in REAL tight spaces at events that don't allow for the 24-120 or 24-70... have to use the Nikon 16-35 (not necessarily right at 16mm), but obviously distortion is an issue no matter how carefully composed shots are. As far as overall image quality with the 16-35, I'm pretty happy with it and I like the VR and the ability to use protective filter at events... but the distortion is pretty bad. Usually try to shoot with flash around 8.0 anyway, so the 2.8 vs 4 aperture not a huge issue with me (i see both pros and cons to 2.8 vs VR anyway). The extra 2mm of the 14-24 might be nice for some event recap photos, but the 28 or 35 at the long end MAY have more of an advantage. Would possibly keep the 16-35 if purchasing the 14-24 for when not as concerned about distortion or worried about the front element getting damaged at an event... or for winter NFL games when snow or rain mist requires constant wiping of front of glass (use a Kata rain cover, but front element still exposed).

Anyone have experience with all 3 of these or have 2 of them that would be able to comment on the distortion aspects of these lenses for immediate OOC jpgs to print or web for event photos of people?  Corner to corner sharpness, vignetting, and cost would take a backseat to distortion in THIS circumstance.  Any opinions or comments greatly appreciated.
