A6k: orientation sensor implies digital level could come in FW update?

As far as I understand, most devices (tablets, cell phones, cameras) that respond to changes in orientation from landscape to portrait use info from a built in accelerometer to sense that the orientation has changed. Of course some are more sensitive than others, allowing for fitness features & the like, but the A6000 *must* have something similar to facilitate recording camera orientation to EXIF, right?

I'm left to wonder whether Sony might have the ability to add a basic digital level to the A6000 through a firmware update. Of course, given their track record with NEX cameras post original NEX-3 & NEX-5 I realize such an update might never come, but perhaps they're turning a new leaf, given recent A7x & NEX-6 FW releases that have actually added something other than lens profiles...?

Barring that, does anyone here have experience with or a recommendation for a hotshoe-mounted level or other solution?

The ones I've seen so far seem to fall into two categories:

  • a low profile black rubber level that looks like it probably only works in landscape mode and has reviews claiming it flexes too much to be accurate
  • a largish, ugly, cube shaped (or elongated cube shaped) yellow thing that threatens to make my sleek new camera look like one of those old Kodak Instamatics with a "flashcube" mounted.

I don't mind retro to a point, but that's the wrong retro for my tastes.
