Re: Zoom instead of primes ?

Ive basically taken the opposite path from you. I purchased the 24-70/2.8 and 70-200/2.8 early on and have since started shooting primes exclusively. Part of is that I now have have 2 FF bodies, so i can mount a wide and a short tele on 2 bodies in place of 1 body and the 24-70/2.8.

The 24-70/2.8 is certainly sharp and contrasty enough. However, primes just take it to another level, but, it depends on what primes you are using.. im mostly using the 24/1.4 and CZ100/2.

I have shot primes for many years mainly due to the clarity and partly for the light and weight.

F2.8 is enough for me most of the time (or even f4), and I was wondering generally, sounding naive here, whether there were zooms as good as primes

What do I mean ? Well not completely sure but:
1. I don't care about distortion or CAs, can be corrected in post
2. Absolute sharpness is important
3. Also micro contrast and contrast
4. The mythical pop ?

For those that use both, what would you say. Eg the Nikon 24-70mm f2.8. Does this have the sharpness and contrast of primes ? And is it from f2.8 or does it have to be stopped down ?

Thought I would check this with you guys before paying out.

Many thanks in advance
