SD10, Full Spectrum Shots and RawDigger

There's ordinary color shots, IR shots and, in between those, 'Full Spectrum ' shots.

IR can be a right royal pain, although results are often quite rewarding: focusing, guessing the exposure, can't see anything in the viewfinder, etc.

These problems go away with full spectrum shooting while still producing unworldly colors to an extent. One problem that does not go away is that the excess of red and infra-red in the captured image which totally screws up any X3F converter that uses normal matrices in the conversion. Typically, you'll see this:

FastStone Viewer (uses dcraw), no post-processing

Seasoned IR folks will heave a sigh and get on with the usual drastic color adjustments, swapping color channels, etc, needed to get something decent out of the image. Or, go black and white and tint the result.

Enter RawDigger and it's RGB rendering, which can be exported as an 8-bit TIFF, voila:

RawDigger RGB export, no post-processing

I don't what the RawDigger folks do in the conversion but, for full-spectrum or IR, it's pure magic.

A few moments in FastStone Viewer (not the finest editor on the planet, but very quick and easy to use):

looks better in original size, of course

A caveat with saved FSV images. They don't embed an ICC profile so, if you're using a wide-gamut monitor the above images could look pretty saturated.

Anybody else do full-spectrum? Do share some images, please. Or, just pop the dust cover out of your SD10 or later DSLR and give it a try!
