Why do you shoot in manual (exposure) mode?

Why do you shoot in manual (exposure) mode?

Very often I read in this forum that posters are shooting in manual exposure mode. Is there any specific reason? I do not understand why people are complaining about one or two tenths of a second lower autofocus speed and lose more time in setting their exposure.
