The thread has been interesting because it has re-affirmed several views I have about forums.

1 As one poster noted, irony and the internet do not mix well. Even tongue-in-cheek comments are not appreciated. Humour doesn't even get a look in.

2 It does not take many posts before mildly abusive comments appear, quote:- "Both are YOUR fault BTW."

3 The topic drifts and false assumptions appear; one poster assumed I am cash limited, missing the whole point of the post.

4 Most posters are well meaning and offer thoughtful advice.

5 I must try to be less abrupt and abrasive with my own comments.

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread.

For what it's worth I think you are being far too fussy and sensitive and need to develop a thicker skin and a more positive outlook to replies and possibly to your own replies to those posts going from your number 5 above. Certainly you should not expect everyone to agree with you.

It's the internet and you get all sorts responding and some will be grumpy, some humorous, most well meaning, lots of thread drift, some nasty trolls and clever dicks, and so on. It is not for everyone.
