Canson paper in unsupported Canon printer (iP4900)

Bought a couple of Canson paper packs at The Photography Show recently (big UK Photography trade fair).

I knew it was a bit of a gamble since my printer is a retail one not pro (Canon iP4900) - and as half expected - Canson only have colour profiles for the higher end printers, not mine.

Does anybody have any tips on using Canson paper in retail photo printers ?
(Printer has a rear feed tray so that should be ok - I'm talking more about settings and colours etc)

I have 2x A4 discovery packs and 1x Arches Aquarelle Rag 310gsm.

I asked Canson via their support form but got the less than useful :
"When you have a non supported printer, use the printer settings that is to say select the setting that fits the best to the paper.
This is the only solution."

.... Oh thanks...

Not a massive issue since I'll likely just use the paper to print gifts for friends - not an exhibition or paying customer. But it would be good to get nice results / not waste the paper.

So any tips gratefully appreciated. TIA
